1. f(x) is increasing from (-2, 0)U(0, 2) because f '(x) is positive
f(x) is decreasing from (-infinity, -2)U(2, infinity) because f '(x) is negative
2. umm I'm not sure how to figure this out i think its at (0,0) but i cant explain why because i don't know
3. its concave up where ever f(x) is positive and is concave down where its negative
4. i think its ex to the fifth power because it changes directions 4 times

1. Great!
ReplyDelete2. No, not at (0,0). The extrema of f are given when f' changes from negative to positive or vice versa.
3. No, f is concave up when f'' is positive and concave down when f'' is negative.
4. If it changes direction 4 times, that makes it at least a 4th degree polynomial. Otherwise the f(x) is a 5th degree in the least.
